For those who love a forest park, Woodpark Forest Park is a lovely walking area beside a stream with picnic tables and very safe for children.

In the centre of Mountshannon we are lucky to have a large park - Aistear Iniscealtra - which has a play area and a maze that the children just love to explore and also a labyrinth for the more spiritually inclined. Aistear is the Gaelic word for journey and as you wander through the maze you are taken on your own 'Aistear' as it brings you on a journey through time where you can explore the evolution of spiritual beliefs in Ireland from the very beginning of civilisation to the present day.

The Labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. Walking the labyrinth represents a journey (Aistear) to our own centre and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools. They are also reputed to be place of powerful positive energy!

If you get hungry after all that we have great restaurants and lively pubs within walking distance of Hawthorn Lodge.
